Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa won Today the Nobel Prize for Literature 2010 for his "cartography of the structures of power and steely images of resistance, rebellion and the defeat of the individual", as explained by the Swedish Academy.
The author of "The city of dogs", born in 1936 in Arequipa (Peru) and also has English nationality, is contained in the betting favorite for the Nobel several years, is the first Latin American writer and Nobel laureate for literature from Octavio Paz, in 1990.
In a first statement, forwarded by the chairman of the Nobel jury, Peter Englund, Vargas Llosa said he was "very moved and excited" by the award.
The writer is in New York, where he teaches at Princeton University.
"She had risen at five o'clock in the morning to file a class when she received our call at quarter to seven, while working hard," said Englund.
Vargas Llosa will attend the award ceremony on December 10 in Stockholm, according to the tradition of the awards will be asked to deliver the speech on behalf of all the winners, except the Peace, held in a side event in Oslo.
